K manage to lose dopeyon the way to whistler.... He rides in a
different school bus.
Arriving at whistler it's COLD. NASCAR and like have no arm/leg
earners so they spoon one another for the last time!! Missile can't
find his bike...again...Dopey comes to the rescue...again....thanks
Dopey.....again
Thus morning I feel like crap.....I am coughing up unmentionable stuff
from deep in my lungs that makes me want to vomit.
Still, we are in whistler. The fresh air does me good as i feel far
better at the fairmont chateau our staging ground for start,
intermediate aid station, finish and "banquet". The only thing
chateauish about the thing is it's size. It's amonster building , for
whistler at least.
We arrange ourselves in groups of 3 then we hear we willbe let loose
in waves of 50. We are off. At least the leaders are. We see them
climbing a steeeeep hill. We are delayed because in their enthusiasm
the leaderstske the wrong way anchave to be brought back inline.
We are off. Boum. Steep up hill. Wow. It is steep. Dopey takes a while
to warm up so he isbehind fir a bit. We climb to descend. A certfadt
ski piste run off ensues followed by another steep uphill. The first
10 minutes are "fun"
We climb higher and eventually inter 'nice n easy' a green downhill
track bur wd ride up it. Fast. A traverse and then we enter a real
downhill track withbig kickers. Dopey flies. Literally. Obviously.
Missile descends at gets abit if air....I want to finish intact:so far
no mechanicals, flats, fallings, or blood. Let's keep it that way.
Blood is spilled however....but not by me or dopey. Two unfortunate
souls apparently were overwhelmed: stunned looks, bloidynises and
bleeding faces from obviousface plants. They are being looked after by
other people so I ride on. Ouch.
We pass thru the " chateau" some if the strip teasers....oops i mean
massage girls are there cheering (us??) on. I don't see them or hear
them but they saudtgry were there when wd saw them aT the banquet.
The hard part is over. No mire real climbing. But looooots of
technical single track thru the woods ensues: all trails named after
Frank Zappa Songs: toads of the shirt forest, why johnny can't read,
the torture never stops.
Just like Zappa, these trails ate Fun. Vety technical twisty turny dry
rocks n roots. Awe sssss mmmmm!!
missile is rocking!! Overtaking left and right, dopey is struggling
(apparently) to keep up. Every time u shoutout Joest to seeifhe us
there...he is...but apparently each time he had just caught up with
me.....only to see me blast off again because I thought he was hanging
with me.
We ride some elevated platforms. Quite a few actually!! some long
ones. Fun. Fun. Fun.
We get kicked out of thefun on"the grand wazoo" thinking we must be
there. We have done 21 of 21 km already!!!
But what us this? More uphill??? Oh yes. A nice steep fireroad to keep
us warm!! I hammer up - heart rate is good: legs are good : I overtake
quite a few people. Yeah. I check for dopey. Almost there just a few
people back. I slacken off a tad Dopey catches me up and in we go to
the last few turns through the woods. Berms. Rail em. Down through the
ski piste and over the line with a nice wheelie!!
YEAH ....WE MADE IT.
Good job Dopey. Thanks for being a great team mate. See you next year,
same time, same place?
And now. Sleep..... tomorrow (today) the bike park and 2 Norco
downhill "rigs" await missile and Jason.
Good day to you all from whistler.

Subject: BC Bike Race - Day 6 - squawmish - squawmish
Wakey wakey.
Sent from my smartphone.
Not such a good night but ok. Yesterdays intestinal troubles are
behind me, so to speak.
Is It raining??? Hmmm maybe.
We wait in line for breakfast and talk with the steed cycles lady. She
is green. As in she wears green. Everyday. I hope she has more than
one set of clothing. She smells ok so I guess so.
Mmmm pancakes, ham. I think of Bremblesd where I first had that combo
with " les towles" many years ago. I LIKE!!
It is raining. It rains harder. It's raining hard. My bike is missing.
Where's my bike. Have you seen my bike. Where's my &)&)&@@ing bike!!!
Did YOU take my bike???? Hey Simon --- of course I have yor bike.
Thanks Joest. ( the Nike live in an enclosed place overnite)
The Canadian anthem plays. It's Canada day. Yay Canada. We are off.
It's raining and I font like it. One bit. Half way round the world to
bike in rain??? Puhleasd. I do t care how good the singletrack
is....can't you see it's )@£)ing RAINING? are you a duck? Dont you
care.
We ride thru a mining sorting site. Big kick ass cat truck (sorry i
dont know if it's a 645B or D or a 634 F. Dopey can tell you)
The first up. It's sandy. We try to rise but fail after it churns into
a beach. We walk and push. I'm hot. I can't see. My glasses have
steamed up. I'm soaked. Yay.
First single track and it's fast and straight. It gets real
interesting real soon as we get a free lower body wah... We have to
wade through a raging torrent. Well, a small creek reall. Still over
my knees though, so kike and oscar are up to their armpits!!!
I have been craft ythough. I have removed my socks. I put them back on
feeling smug that my feet are a tiny bit less wet than everyone
elses. Barely.
I plod on. Mostly on the bike. Sometimes on foot.
It's still raining.
We have two climbs to do today. 500 and 760m starting from ses level.
I have to remember to eat and drink. Thinking this I stuff a Canada
bar: (maple syrup and nuts clif bar). I have to fight to keep it down.
Sooo many bars these last 5 days Im not sure I can do it. It stays
down. Barely.
We ride down sweet singletrack. Up down left right in out down back
twisty turny. Add water for a little more fun. Strangely I have not
fallen off yet, at all Could this be the day?
Aid one arrives. Still not having much fun. Cold. Miserable weather.
Dopey says I have to stat positive. Screw him. But he's right. We
climb. I get warm. My smile returns. Sort of.
We enter dense forest. I feel like an old person....my glasses are
perched on the end of my nose to get a bir of air flow to remove thd
mist . For my troubles i get a poje inthe ete from a young fir tree
branch. Curses. I thought I couldn't see before but now I really can't
see. Meye smarts and tears...
....my glasses are long gone now better to ride sans glasses at all.
For my trouble I get mud in my eye. This ride is really shaping up.
Voilà. We are riding nory shore style platforms, ramps and bridges,
albeit low ones. Imagine planks raised off the ground and above
obstacles. Add chickenwure for grip. Remove brain or add testes to
ride. Especially when wet.
U ride some. Dopey rides more. NASCAR rides even more.
Fun. Im actually beginning to have run again. Legs are good, back is
creaky but holdingish.
And I ridebrhibd Chris the UNICYCLE guy. He using front. I am in
front. Repeat. UNBELIEVABLE. he is doing the slightly easier but still
challenging " challenge course. He has a 2 speed unicycle. He changes
gear with hisheel on a button on the bottombracket. He has YouTube
video. He does free rise. On his unicycle. Amazing.
And now the downhill. 10 km. Oo laa laaaaaaaa! Bestial!! Fantastisch.
Wunderbar. Abertisch. Bloody ripper mate. Sweeet. Ossum.
Aaaaawwwwesssommmmmee man.
Fast. Grip. Lean the bike. No leN it further. Oohhh that's a steep
drop. Bye bye. Pedal pedal pedal. Lift. Push. Bridge. Whooaaahhh. Mud
- none. Loam. Lots of looooooaaaammmm. Steep fast flowy. Ever lasting.
Missile is back. I can and I WILL hang on to the handlebar. I don't
catch dopey though. I have dome traffic. Mostet me past. Bitchy bitch
didn't. I asked nicely. She fell but then threw herself back into my
path. Ok bb your going down. She was not cool. Enough of bb. Bye bye bb.
Joest is folmong me. Better not mess up. Is my hair ok? Aarghhhh my
stupid foot comes out the pedall NOW and he has to get it on film.
Grrrr.
And we are down with 3 kmto go. I am fly- ing now and lexvr Dopey in
my virtual dust fir once. I catch up with the green ladies. They pedal
well but fall all the time. I almost run into them as they fell right
in front of me on big loose round slippery when wet rock field... mmmm
yummy for me, not for them.
Finally a great day. Slippery when wet can airy of be fun...heh heh!!!
The footnote is that oscar was angry with Kike and ran into him AFTER
the finish line. Hah. Take THAT. Result: taco for dinner. Wheel number
two for Kike. Ask oscar shag happened. Kike: bruised and bashed and
bone too happy. But Kike is Kike. A smile and joke and well, tomorrow
is another day.
Indeed
We do rip 4:23 20th overall

Goodnight.
Sent from my smartphone
Delay at the ferry means we start 45 minutes late. Ahead: 63km.
Somewhat apprehensive: Bc mountain biking is tough. This is not fir
wimps. 3 days in and I am,well knackered.
Good job I have Zoe and Sherry!! Mmmm. mmmmmmaasaaaaaggge!!!
Sherry "did" me last night and on days 1 & 2. Strong yet supple hands
on my back and thighs.....aaaahhhhh. Bliss. I don't think I could
continue without them. Alsi, seeing as tou asked they' re pretty good
looking too!!! I digress
No Acdc today. Atleast I don't think so. I'm tired. At the start we
see a Sinhke speeder and admire/mock/sneer/are awed by his approach to
getting over these hills. Madness. Little did Kike know he would soon
join that club.
2 km in we com across Kike and NASCAR grocellinv in the dirt, Spanish
swearwords spewing forth. Jokes beast is dead. Lord knows how, but his
dérailleur bolt snapped. The bag of tricks we all carry had not what
he needs. Basically he is screwed. 61 km to go and no gears!!!
We ask I'd they need anything from us,.... We ride on being ignored
amid yet more rapid fire espagnol.
A food start to to th day.
It then starts to rain in the first traverse. Dopey annoys some riders
az we try to recover some lost ground. Somebody misjudges his braking
hits my rear tire and ends up in the bushes and rocks below.....bye bye.
We get som nice double track, a few sreep climbs some nice descents
and basically enjoying riding along minding my own business, when
suddenly...... CRAP ATTACK. I leap from my bike, throw of my pack
helmet glasses shirt and gloves, grab the Kleenex and......
..... Some time later, feeling somewhat betterr CRAP ATTACK #2. Oh
shit. Indeed..... Some time later.....riding along enjoying the
scenery. Aid station 1 shows up. Refuel. Water. Eat. Gotta stink gotta
eat.
So my plan if taking it easy really works. My heartratd us averaging
137. Unmoving right along. The trails are great. Some fast double
track. Nice easy flowy, not too technical single track. Nice. Apart
from the CA's of course.
Km 32 goes by....nice....when suddenly CRAP ATTACK #3........some time
later wd hit son SWEET SINglETRACK. Grest twisty turbing clinbimng
lots of traction. Fantastic.I'm not happy though and whilst my legs
and heart are there, my mind is wondering when CRAP ATTACK 4 is coming.
About then I look back from a turn, see a niner rip 9 but not Nascar,
who zips by me. Kike is there too.....singlespeeding!!!! Damn that guy
is fit. They cut down the chain and had at it. Better that than
spoonbg inthe woods waiting for the rain to stop!!
They go on. CRAP ATTACK 4. definately not enjoying that part but have
figured I can leave my helmet on to take my shirt off (bibshorts).......
.....aud station 2 is at km 45 or so. Est. Drink. Don't think about CA
5. pedal on.
By the way dopey wax great. He waited patiently whilst I did my bear
thing(s) once I caught up with him at the aid station 2.
Anyway. A climb. A fast descent. Fire road. Oooooohhhh I love My
niner. Blasteroid time. Rocks fly. Dust rises. Dopey and missile
hurtle. Past people. Yeah. Rock n roll. Awwwwsome. Dude.
Now the hard part starts. It's steep. It's km 50. Were tired. But my o
my those Canucks can build trails. INCREDIBLE swooping and diving and
climbing trail. Oodles of traction. if you had the legs. Which I
nearly did.
The effort was worth it. Fast flowy descent. Really fast.
Fingerbreaking fast. Trees everywhere. (we're in a forest!! Duhh!) o
my. I can smell dopeys grin it's so big. Ossum descent. Jumps,
Bernard, roots, (the good kind for once. )
We finish and I realise I just lost 15 minutes to pure unadulterated
bliss. I was in the zone in the downhill. I ate enough, I drank
enough. My fingers held on enough. I RIPped. Not sure how I got siwn
but that trip down into sechelt is stored in the library of mythical
rides. You know you did it,but somehow time stops/disappears/vanishes.
Only when you stop do you realise it. AWESOME.
Despite the problems, yet again, a great day.
And I also realise.... CA 5 never came!!!
We do rip 4:30
70s Crop 4:20
Can't remember the position but I think ed list some..
Sent from my smartphone.
Crap night due to endless wind meant I was knackered before starting.
NASCAR: wind??? What wind?? Bastard!
Early rise. Cappuccino at "grind". Kike and Nascar happy. Dopey
smooths a slurpie or something like that.
Bus.
Ferry.
I have my back taped. Ouch.
11:00 am race start. Short dirt track up. Long dirt road along... We
draft so we Zip along.
Then the fun begins. Steeeeep uphill and into roots. Dry roots. Wet
roots. Sharp roots. Big roots. Long roots. Up roots. Along roots. Flat
roots. Broken roots. Edgy roots. Pink roots. New roots. Slow roots.
Moving roots. Tiny roots ( not too many of those).
Basically. Roots.
Did I mention the turns. Sharp turns. Sharper turns. Down turns.
Twisty turns.
Did I mention the ups and downs? Up and down and up and down ad
infinitum.
About.a bazillion gear change.
Are you still concentrating. I could barely hold it together at the end.
A few fast flowy turny sections, 3 long travereses then the final
downhill.
My back was killing me.
Glad to finish
Tired
Veerrrry tired.
