Cat MTB weekend - update -we're almost there!!
Howdy cats & dogs!
One week left to the MTB event of the year, which as you all know will take place in Zermatt.
Thanks to BoumBoum and Balls, we have secured reservation at a MTB-friendly hotel, with a locked place to store the bikes as well as a bike washing station should we need it. Incidentally, Tania has stayed there recently so she coudl give us all some feedback about her stay.
There are reservations made for 10 people, 2 nights, check-in Fri 03.08.2012, check-out sun 05.08.2012. In the end, no-one is staying on Thursday night so we have cancelled that part of the booking.
Hotel details are:
Hotel Alpenstern
Daniel J. Biner
Postfach 425
3920 Zermatt

For those of you arriving by car, you'll need to park the car in Tasch, then take the train to Zermatt or ride
5.5km and +160m on your bike to the hotel. As you have already guessed, BoumBoum will take his gear in a backpack so he can bike up to Zermatt.
Many of you will be arriving on the friday, and there are rumours about a ride taking place as of noon or early afternoon. I will not be able to make the ride so I suggest you contact Joest or BoumBoum who will likely have the trail planned out.
The official kick-off rendez-vous will be at 20h30 at restaurant Schäferstübli (recommended by JeanMi, I suggest you come hungry). Details of the restaurant are:
Restaurant Schäferstübli
Riedstrasse 2, CH-3920 Zermatt
Tel. +41 (0)27 966 76 00
There are 2 restaurants in the same place (it's a hotel), the one we're going to is the one with the grill, in the bottom floor.
I'm sorry to say that due to an important event in his life, which is no less than moving in with his girlfriend, BeauJoeLais will not be joining us for the weekend. I still hope he can join us for the saturday ride, but it seems very unlikely. I know what you're thinking...she better be worth it! I'll let BeauJoeLais answer that one...
So we're all set for the weekend. Joest will confirm during next week if we will have a guide with us (a friend of his who knows Zermatt trails like the palm of his hand) or not. We will ride long, we will ride nice, and we will treasure this experience. Bring your cameras!
Friendly reminder...don't forget your emergency kit!
Another reminder...check that your bikes are in top shape! I'm sure Missile will take his toolbox but I doubt he'll let go of the beer jug to start fiddling around with chains and derailleurs...he doesn't need jo technician points so don't count on it.
My cell phone # is 078.944.1174 in case you need to reach me.
Looking forward to a weekend of fun and k's with you all !!
Saluti,
Nameless.
Well done Nameless. Look forward riding Zermatt trails with you all.
ReplyDeleteWell done Nameless. Look forward riding Zermatt trails with you all.
ReplyDeleteGood work Nameless. We look forward to shredding it up in Zermatt!!!
ReplyDeleteAll clear Nameless, thanks for that. Can’t wait!! Hotel Alpenstern is nice. It’s at the Northern end of town, down a quiet lane, but still within easy walking distance of the shops & restaurants. Rooms are comfortable enough (though mine had a big pillar in the middle of it which was a bit odd), and you can see the Matterhorn (if you stand on a chair). The hot whirlpool they advertise is neither hot nor whirly, but I don’t imagine that’s a priority for us. The décor is quite traditional and the rooms have balconies to sit on to catch the sun when you’re recovering from the epic (epic++!!) trails. There is plenty of hot water, though the showers are a bit cramped for two ;-) Breakfasts feature abundant standard fare, with a variety of fresh breads and la serveuse in traditional Swiss costume is a nice touch...never mind that she is definitely not Swiss. The live webcam of the fabulous mountains displayed on the TV monitor in the dining room provides excellent motivation to make sure you don’t linger, but instead get out shredding ASAP! The staff are friendly and I consider it good value for money. I’m happy to be staying there again. See you all Friday! Have a good week until then all. A bientot!
ReplyDeleteStart of the end for me....
ReplyDeleteJoe's I spoke with Adrian the local guide. He suggest we get the peak pass...3 day pass that give you access to all train and lifts. Bring your demi-tarfi because the saving is good!
ReplyDeleteWe ride all around Zermatt for the three days...to many trails and to good views to miss. Adrian and I set out an itinerary on Friday and reserve restaurants accordingly.
Pleas bring you smile and your super big photo - photo camera!
The Peak Pass is CHF 190! Is it possible to use less of the trains/cable cars?
DeletePS bring your knee protectors...we are going all mountain but mainly down :-)
ReplyDeleteSee u there - without my toolbox though as i arrive by train. Can anyone give me lift back on Sunday?
ReplyDeleteWe all go by train and we were counting on you on the way back :-)
DeleteDopey its sounds like a mighty good plan ! Any meeting time set for Friday ? Missile sorr but car is full with family but maybe Balls can squeeze you in his Citroen...from Sierre !
ReplyDeleteThe sooner the better...I think Nascar, Boumboum, Tanya and myself will be on the early bird train. Shredding to start at 10 AM...!
DeleteOK fine. Balls and Papy will be there too !
ReplyDeleteI'll be ready eventually, 'cause a good brain concussion last sunday nearly kept me at home for Zermatt. OTB at full speed due to pedal blocked by stone on the left, root on the right...it happens !
ReplyDeleteNo computer, no screen, no work, no bike for 10 days and I feel encouragely better now ! Same feeling as after having being playing computer games for 2 whole nights...but no headache anymore. I'll take it easy and we'll see ! So I join on friday morning and will arrive at zermatt at 9.13 am with the first train also. I 'll bring Tanya reverb seatpost, so we will fix it in the train if we don't sleep...
Zermatt - COOL! Just read this, checking with the hotel for a room. Cheers, Dave
ReplyDeleteDavid, I won't come so for saturday there is one place free.
ReplyDeleteGoat, that is real great to have you again with us. See you in Zermatt !
ReplyDeleteSounds like we are all charged and ready to go...
