MTB is not dead during winter.

Last year's ride
Meeting point: Saturday top of Saas-Fee, 8:00 @ 3,500m, takes 45min to go up!
Organization: I'll go with friends, some will sleep locally and some others like me will sleep nearby and go for the race plus one or 2 nice days on the best slopes in Valais.
Note you don't need a DH for that, the best bike is an enduro-style with 150-170 travel, mud tires with 5 psi in it, and a 48 chainring!
