Cat MTB weekend - update # 3 - Destination: Zermatt!

It's done! Decided! The doodle is closed, and the Jo's have spoken. This year, the Cat MTB weekend will take place on August 3, 4, and 5 in Zermatt.

This is the result of the doodle:

So we will be 9 people in total. I still hope some of the other Jo's will be able to rearrange their calendars to join us. The next step will be to secure accommodation, so we'll start making calls.

Please block your calendars and order the parts you need NOW so the bikes will be in perfect shape for the ride.

In terms of organization:

Balls: thanks a lot for your offer to help! I'll take you up on your offer in the coming days, to help us make calls to the potential bike-friendly hotels.

BoumBoum: should we find a time to go over your list of hotels over a beer? Do you have some time next weekend?

Dopey: can we count on your help to recommend the trails? Do you already have a place in mind for the Friday DH?

Missile: can you confirm your presence to the Friday DH, and to the rest of the weekend? Your answer on the doodle said you needed to double-check with your vacation plans.

All other Jo's: anybody else want to join for the downhill on friday Aug 3rd?

Papy: will give you a call to discuss Caterpillar-specific issues.

Labrico: you now have about 2 months to find a gonzesse in Zermatt...should be plenty of time for you.

3Decis: are you really not coming?!

Nascar: any suggestions for trails are welcome, the sooner we start the discussions, the better.

Alpine: you won't become a real Jo until you join the Cat MTB weekend...

BeauJoeLais: I'm counting you in for the hotel, we will not let you sleep in your car...mainly because we might need it if Simon has a bad snoring night.

Limoncello: we're still waiting to hear from you!

Husky: anybody out there?  Any chance you will join?

Tanya: should you come to realize that this weekend is (a lot) more fun than a triathlon, we'll be delighted to have you with us! Might even warrant a name...

I hope you're all as excited as I am about this weekend...we're going to ride in a truly spectacular place!

Last but not least, I've heard that the Goat is in Zurich so no excuse not to join us. Zulu, if you want to win the most km. traveled award, you'll need to fly in again this year! Bring Honeybadger with you if you do!

That's all for now, folks. To be continued!

Nameless.

Cat MTB Weekend update 22 may

Hey all, a few words to give an update on the situation of the weekend. So far the responses are aiming at Zermatt in 1st place, and somewhere in Valais as 2nd choice. I have yet to hear from quite a few Jo's, so for those of you who haven't done so, please communicate your vote. Also, for you Jo's out there (except for Dopey and Papy), I'm still waiting for volunteers to help with the organization. Deadline to submit votes and preference for the place of the ride is Sunday, may 27. Any news from those of you who picked a date other than August 3 & 4 ? More news soon. Nameless

Cat MTB weekend update - dates are set

Jo's, The doodle is now closed for the voting of the dates for the MTB weekend. The weekend where most people are available is August 3-4. Now that the dates are defined, the next step is to decide the place and start to work on the logistics. Zermatt has been mentioned as the place for this year, and while it's an amazing place to ride, the fact that it's August implies that it will be crowded and finding accommodation will likely be difficult and expensive. Also, on many previous occasions, we've been lucky to rely on Papy's outstanding organization skills, and last year it was Joeest. I think this time it'd be great if the remaining Jo's would take over, so we can all share the effort. I've started to be involved by setting up the doodle, and I'm happy to coordinate the weekend moving foward, but I'll need the help of some of you to see it through. So, let's pick a place quickly, so we can move on to organizing the rest of the logistics. Please cast your votes for: 1. Zermatt 2. The glacier where Joest was photographed (Aletsglatscher) 3. Somewhere in the Valais, with brazilian-like trails 4. Some other place of your choice. Please post your top 2 choices in the blog, and we can decide next Tuesday. If you don't have a preference, just say so, and we'll count your vote as neutral (ok no matter where we go). Finally, for those Jo's who didn't sign up for the weekend of August 3-4, I'd encourage you to try to rearrange your plans if at all possible, the more we are the more fun it will be. Looking forward to another fantastic riding weekend with you all! Nameless

'Hey! It is hail!' Ride report

6 riders: Beau-Joe-Lais, BoumBoum, Dopey, Stephen, Tanya and myself.
19km ridden and 700m vertical.
The data of the day: 1,4°C at 1100m before to start the downhill. Indeed, we were wet of course.
Hail and snow joined also the party (15th of May??)
+1 to all for challenging weather.
-0,5 to BoumBoum for 'let's fix it because it works', self-mechanical unbolting his own tire valve and completely remove the tire afterwards. One man show.
-0,5 again to BoumBoum to manage to have a second flat and the tire off the rim 1km before the arrival.
+0,5 because he run after us (was it cold?)
-1 to the Jura, we don't like your attitude.
+1 to Stephen for his first official outing. Welcome.
+0,5 to Stephen for an OTB, but -0,5 as on a 26er is waaaay easier to do it.
+0,5 to Tanya as we should encourage her downhill capabilities improvement.
-0,5 to NoName, no-show without certificate neither announcement.
Do I forget something?

PS To Missile: we had numb fingers and toes, I'm sure you would have loved it!!
