BC Bike Race starts tomorrow. Let the awesomeness begin!! North Shore riding, hand carved trails, "gnarly" descents, looooaaammm. Omg. Have i died and gone to heaven. Plus an enduro section where i will have to try and keep within a "normal" speed - but apologies up front to my co bcbr-ers if you get tire marks on your shirt backs..... Plus 1380m climbing tomorrow to get us in the spirit of the race. Bring it on!!!

Roadie stunts
If you thought the video by Dany McAskil was good, don't miss this. Might just be necessary to rethink whether the term roadie is a bad thing...Video

The "Le Lion est mort" ride report
Indeed the Lion (the ref in our case) was dead, actually experiencing what it means to be trailing behind (on the flat and/or against the wind, he was alive going up and down).
3 courageous riders, knowing they were likely to get some rain, but still eager to hit the trails: Labrico, Missile, Limoncello (host)
We left the Stade du Bout du Monde around 18:30, went south under Labrico's guidance, trying to escape the dark clouds, our wheels going from single trails in the woods, to wider trails, to bits of asphalt. We then went up the Salève above Beaumont (really cool single track by a little river, got some rain at this stage), and crossed on the flank of this beautiful mountain to land behind Labrico's house.
The usual magnifique DH towards Veyrier and back to Stade du Bout du Monde.
Drive to Limoncello's: Bière du Salève, BBQ, Ice cream, and ….. Limoncello!
Stats:
46 km (longest Tuesday ride this season)
Up 673m
Time on the bike 2h35
Highlights:
- Missile's day off. Man it was good to have him behind me once in my life, even if not for a good reason. Had we been in Jussy woods, I would have had 1 kg of mosquitos in my teeth
- Missile's excuse book (excerpts) to have a rest: "I need a natural break", "I need to fill in my bottle", "I need more air in the rear wheel", "I stopped for a beer with a group of junkies" … Ref, with all due respect, it is OK to say you're just f….g dead once in your life.
- Labrico's attempt to make us believe he too was talking to the clouds ;-)
- Christèle on Wednesday morning: "where is the meat and vegetable left for Tiphaine's lunch?" …. well, ask starving Missile ;-)
Points:
Participation point: Labrico, Missile, Limoncello
Host and dine points: Limoncello
Bullshit award: Missile -0.5 (see above)
Courage award: Missile 0.5 starving (light if any lunch) and suffering, but … pedal damn it
Leading award: Labrico 0.5 for finding the tracks while escaping (most of) the clouds and rain
Selfish award: Tiphaine -0.5 for drinking all the coke with no notice for the shopping list. Fortunately Labrico had a bottle in his car
Thanks guys for a really nice ride and time together.

Sani2c.... better late than never!
In May, it was time for the 10th annual Sani2c multi-day race from the Drakensberg mountains (Sani) through 270 km of amazing countryside to the sea. This ride is partly sponsored by the Cat dealer (Barloworld) and has been ridden by certain members of the Cat MTB team over the years. This was my turn for my first ride. Although I don't have many pictures, I encourage you guys to consider this as an option before the summer season in Europe. It's a lot of fun and quite a good test of your fitness. Happy to help make arrangements for anyone interested. Cmon and play in SA.

Valais 14-15 (pass2)
What a great day, after at victory of 5-1 in Brazil, what was I'm supposed to do?
Riding the Brazilian of course :-) I was also the region where it did not rained, hopefully Missile showed me this track.
The riding conditions were excellent, almost all cows doors were open or down, 1 or 2 pedestrians, no dogs and cat in sight either. I must say the snow flatter the track, so don't wait too long letting bourbines digging bumps.
Next time I'll be heading to the Pas de Looegnot, it looks nice too.
I'll be in Valais this week-end if you're interested riding Col de Cou (4h), Ovronnaz - Fully via Col Fenestral (6h) or a shorter version Col de Forcle (3-4h) same difficulty but without pushing your bike and less view.

Ride report The Menoge 9 juin 2014.

The Epic Ride Report
The ride turned out to be epic from a number of points...
but...first things first....
Missile and Weasel were the riders,
Start point: Bex Train station: 7:39
Distance: No idea...
Time: All day...
Ride Report
Missile brought a gun to a sword fight and weasel brought a club!!
...Needless to say, some things went better than others...
The Arsenal
The Gun: Santa Cruz Tall Boy from "last week"...
The Club: Iron Horse something or other from last century...
The Early Call
Weasel arrives at 06:10 - load the bikes...off
(He wanted to take the Honda Jazz but " ze german power vun ze day..."
The Train Ride #1
....missile still not understanding what Weasel was saying about the second stage....despite having all the information in form of an SMS (unread) from the previous night.
The NOT train Ride #2 (EPIC FAIL #1)
DOH: no train up to Bretaye....it leaves in an HOUR!!! Weasels information finally sinks in....
We got up an hour too early. Epic Fail. Weasel makes it known that he could have slept for one more hour. He says this numerous times. -1 Missile
20%
500 m @ 20% gradient at least - we arrive before the train....
Not to GPS
Somehow the electricity in Borex didnt make its way into the capacitor doohicky in my GPS.
Fortunately I have a (mostly) good memory - 0.5 missile
OTB On Film (EPIC Fail #2)
GoPro will reveal an epic fail of the Noob proportions....roots cause a spill which...causes Missiles "remote hydraulic actuated fork lockout" to 'Fail' leaving the fork in Locked mode...scheisse. -1 Missile
Intersport Diablerets (EPIC Win!!)
Unvelievably enough we managed to get a broken hydraulic hose, cut, refittted and re-bled by the 'one eyed mechanic' (I kid you not...) and we were sort of on our way....
One Eyed Mapper
We got a "tuyau" from the one eyed mechanic of some fun trails over in Villars..."Backside Bretaye"
as we were behing schedule we decided to adapt our itinerary to do the backside...
2 Ups - 2 Downs - Swiss Postal Service
Up Col du pillon twice by bus and down twice...."roots r us" was the name of the game. No OTB's. One bushwhack by Weasel.
Shouldnt that be 'tight'
Weasel finally notices that his wheel is completely 'désaxé' having ridden 150m vertical with the left hand side rear axle 'popped'....no comment....-0.5 Weasel
Backside Bretaye #1
Postal bus up to Col de La Croix...over to Bretaye and UPPPPP to Roc D'orsay.
Down the ski slope on Aigle side....(Epic fail Missile for not following the map = up about 50m) -0,5 missile
Backside Bretaye # 2 Dont fall left/right/forwards/backwards. (EPIC NEW TRAIL ALERT)
The remaining part of the ride was 'decouverte' thanks to "one eye" who had traced a perfect ride for us. For those without vertigo and with serious steepness capabilities the first part is for you. Weasel rode all but the most 'challenging' noting on one occaision that a 'gap jump' could be installed. +0.5 Weasel
Backside Bretaye # 3 Back To Nature (EPIC NEW TRAIL ALERT)
The rest of the ride was sweeet single track all the way down to Aigle with some of the most "ludique" trails in the area. Finished off woth a series of great singletrack switchbacks.
Call for the trail route!!!
Mordor Is Coming
We came out of the woods at Aigle and noticed the sky was no longer blue, but, black and bruised, coming our way and ready to spray us mightily....which it did 5 minutes from the car.....soaked!!!
Epic day - it was....so much so someone snored in the car on the way home !!!
but...first things first....

Ride report from Tuesday 3rd June, "Barillette mon amour".
Joes: Missile, JaBeast, Zorba, Labrico, BoumBoum and Nascar
Distance: 20 JuraKms
Vertical: 800 JuraMts
At dinner: All but Jabeast (school work excuse)
I should say that this was a simple, but by no means bad, ride. Unlike other times, no mechanicals, no blood and no OTB's (Buuuh). Some flowy single trail followed by an steady climb and the always fun to ride Barillette drift fest DH run, through OJ1, ChickenWings, The Pool and Rabbit.
To mention the increased uphill speed from JaBeast +0.5
I might give a +0.5 for Labrico as +50senior to keep up with JaBeast with a smile.
Zorba should get +0.5 green points (train+bike to my place).
I don't know if (+) or (-) to Zorba, I leave it to the Ref, for the "itcannotbethisguysgodownonadoubletrack" award (or penalty) for the accurate situation assessment (+case) or the lack of logical, if nobody is there and the trail is obvious (-case). As said, The Ref will say.

During the weekend of June 14 & 15 I will be in CH...Yippie! And Dopey like to ride with his buddies, fellow Joe shredders!
Lets pick a day where most of you have time and go for a nice home ride (Jura preferred) but Boumboum land is an option too!
Looking forward riding, launching and moreover see my friends again!
See you soon Dopey!
