BCBR Day 3 - Powell river

Too tired to blog yesterday.

Crap night due to endless wind meant I was knackered before starting.
NASCAR: wind??? What wind?? Bastard!

Early rise. Cappuccino at "grind". Kike and Nascar happy. Dopey
smooths a slurpie or something like that.

Bus.

Ferry.

I have my back taped. Ouch.

11:00 am race start. Short dirt track up. Long dirt road along... We
draft so we Zip along.

Then the fun begins. Steeeeep uphill and into roots. Dry roots. Wet
roots. Sharp roots. Big roots. Long roots. Up roots. Along roots. Flat
roots. Broken roots. Edgy roots. Pink roots. New roots. Slow roots.
Moving roots. Tiny roots ( not too many of those).
Basically. Roots.

Did I mention the turns. Sharp turns. Sharper turns. Down turns.
Twisty turns.

Did I mention the ups and downs? Up and down and up and down ad
infinitum.

About.a bazillion gear change.

Are you still concentrating. I could barely hold it together at the end.

A few fast flowy turny sections, 3 long travereses then the final
downhill.

My back was killing me.

Glad to finish

Tired

Veerrrry tired.

We do rip: 4 hrs - 19th overall. Woohoo still in the top half.
70's crop. 3:27 hrs - 19th overall.

Then
Bike maintenance
Warmish? shower (that sucks)
Massage. ...aaaaaahhhhhhh

BCBR sox!!!

Must have coffee or smoothies!!!

BCBR Sox!!!

Day 3 - starting well at the Cumberland grind coffee shop

BC Bike Race - Day 2 - Cumberland to....Cumberland.

First night tenting in years passed well....only two ventures in the middle of the night to mark my territory.

Wakey wakey at 5:45....nnnggghhghhg already?? Rush rush rush...breakfast...bus... Ps Dopey turned 40 overnight. Welcome to the club.

School buses of the yellow and old variety were used....som didn't make it far before spittting diesel on the manifold. Race start delayed by 30 minutes.

AcDc highway to he'll gets us in the mood and we are off. Hand is doing well - downhill bumps not too difficult - but unfortunaty no warp speed....yet.

Equipa Espana look fine sporting "pedal damn it decals" thanks Drew from Niner. Dopey and missile ride Swiss today....(jerseys).

A quick road warm up for 2km and straight into woods and ....traffic. There's a steep uphill which forces everybody off the bike...but thins out the crowd.

The impatient lady gets....impatient. We laugh and let get go in front. We pass her later. But she can pedal. But we don't care...she's wearing long socks!!! What's with that.

Now....can you say ....fast and flowy!?? Repeat....after...me... .fast and flowy!!! Wow. Twisty turny rock rooty... That was yesterday. This is a carpet ride of LOAM. look it up in the dictionary. L o a m.

Ossum.

20 km of sweeet single track. No major ups. No major downs. Thought the trees and the ferns. Strands of fern rustling against your legs. A stream of dirt kicked up by the rider in front. Sweet traction. Leeeeeaannnn the bike. Yes it grips. Left and right and right and left and flow and twist and .....continue for 1 hr. O.M.G.

At this point Pantani the Aussie speeds past 70's crop for the First Time and then few minutes later gets passed. Repeat n Times during the race. Then Watch the firework explode.

Km 22 to 30....Nascar and Missile suffer backache but valiantly ride on. We make good time.

Aid station 1 arrives. We stock up. The impatient lady arrives and dumps her bike in the middle of the area and hits my leg. Bice. Bye bye impatient lady.

Dopey doesn't hassle me this time...we set off "whenever I'm ready"

Technical downhill on dusty rocks tests the surgeons work. It holds. But the missile is not in the house. I hear he'll be back though.
Dopey is away enjoying the run. He waits at the bottom.

Missile see slimy rocks and bails buy not before a "coming through dude...." and a hot biker chick rides expertly past. I'm impressed. My courage mysteriously returns. On the bike - great...the tricky part is done. Now it's super fast and gravelly. Brakes....what brakes.

But I then miss a turn and have to back track. The first north shore style bridge over a river awaits.....but there's a guy stinking up the place and I have to dismount...grrrr... He complains he has broken ribs... I wave my hand at him with my middle finger(crookefly) showing. Well not really but Joest had a "word" with him.

More floooooowwwwww. Fast fast fast. Dust in our teeth from grinning. We hit a rolling gravel hardpack. We Flyyyyyyy. Rolloung, rolling rolling....keep thos niners rolling....keep those miners rolling...rawhide.... Etc

We blast past 10 people. We Do Rip on our niners!!!! Yeah.

Jean mi: you may now take this opprtinity to place your niner order....

I continue

Aid station 2 informs us that we have 14 km left. They lied. It was less. Yay. It's fun. Wayyy Fun. Bug thd legs are a tad....well...basically. Tired. But our grins are not!!!!

Up. A Little. STEEEEP. Ouch. Northshore is ridden. Well mostly by locals , a little by us. Finally we climb to 360 metres and it's now downhill. Space nugget awaits. Twisty. Rooty. ROOTY. loaaaaaammmm. Down. Ledges. Drop offs. Logs. Twisty turny. We are spat out onto the gravel. 1 km to go.

NASCAR proceed to implant a 5cm nail in his tyre 200m from the end. He runs gone.
We do Rip finish 23 minutes later.

Pantani finishes 45 minutes after us.

Impatient lady arrives after us. Nice pedalling...bad attitude. Booo.

Day 2' 57 km are over. Boo.

70's crop is in 9th position overall
We Do Rip are now In19th overall

Tent city awaits. Bike wash. Body wash. Eats. Coffee. Blog.   There...you are now all up to date!!!

See you tomorrow.

Ps we can only send iPhone photos so sorry there are not more.

Bc Bike Race - Day 1 - nanaimo - nanaimo

Up early...pancakes for breakfast (again)...ready for 67 km. Ferry
ride and then we had to find our bikes in 500others!! Finally found
them. Drink. Stink more( it's got to be clear, see) and the 11:00 sharp
off.
Police escort for 10km on the road then into the woods for the first
loop of singletrack. Up and down, down and up, just for fun of course.
And just for starters. Stoked. It twists. It turns. It's rooty. It's
rocky. It's loamy. Yeah. The traffic on the trail is heavy so at first
we bunch up and ride over one another! Continue previous description
for about 40km. Did I mention it goes up, then down, them sideways.
Then up some more. Then UP. Then UP. power move please. Another power
move. Power move=pedal. Hard. Lift the front. Higher. More. Push hard.
Lift the rear. Do it again. Do it some more. Mix it up. Don't fall
off. Don't run over the guy who who doesn't make it.
Learn to say AWEsome. Say it a lot. Because you mean it. Because
everyone else says it. It comes out goofy because your smile is so big.
Bridges. Cool. Don't fall in! Drop offs. Don't do an OTB. Trees. Don't
run into them. Did that one move....no...your front wheel slid sideways.
Wait up... That guys going the wrong way.....no just another switchback.
Finally a fire road....it feels like a highway compared to the roots.
A little bit of rest. Then...finally...the cherry on the
cake.downhill. Single track built by people who know how to build.
Fast and flowy? Not yet. Backwards and forwards through the trees.
Roots and rocks (a bit) but down!!! Yeah. The last 10 km go in a blur.
My grin is a GRIN!! faster and faster. Flowing now. The gels are
kicking in. Energy ...yes!!
Finally the best flowing smooth fast bermed banked loamy soft track to
the road. AWESOME!!! ....dude.

We do Rip - 5:04 hrs (dopey/missile)
70,s Crop - 4:27 hrs (nascar/Kike)

Goodnight!! ......dudes

Day 0 - Prologue

We have finished....the first part is over. The prologue was a fast gravel road up, then twisty steep technical single track up hill then a very technical bumpy tooth twisty rocky downhill. It took me 10 minutes 30 seconds the others dudnt swutch on their gps! Well find out shortly. Bike fine. Dopey fine. Nascar fine. Kike.
Also fine. Eveything perfect. This was just the 'Amuse Bouche' to decide the starting position. The real stuff starts tomorrow. 65 km through the woods. Yeah.

Ready To Rock !!!

Who is in ?

The New Mt Muessy ride

The team: No5, Limoncello Frusback, Iron Ass, 3DC

The ride: New Mt Muessy, 32 km, 590 m, 2h08

The Condition: Beautiful, dry and sunshine

We all agree, that the Mt Muessy is one of the most fun, beautiful and divers ride among all the cats & dogs rides along the right or left bank. It's alos the only place to notice that the salève is far enough to be nice.

3DC show to the cats (was only cats for this rides) new tracks on the north face of Mt Muessy to make the ride to a total of 32 km.

Back home, beers, (we had no thime for jaccuzzi again this time) steack and Diolinoir at the Diligence have made this longest Tuesday of the season a perfect moment.

Show up points: No5, Limocelleo Frusback, Iron Ass, 3DC +1

Hosting point: 3DC +1

The Push my back point: For Limoncello Frusback (this one will be long to engrave on the 1st aid kit) +0.5 for going down bling on the chemin des Dames not knowing the track. On day he will join the torn short, stiches, cast, hospital team with Labrico and Missiles.

There is a 2 points bonus for the first one to pass the tricky stage (on the bike of course) on the New Mt Muessy loop.(if the ref agree of course)

That's all folks!

Tuesday, June 15 - Ride Report

Riders: BoumBoum, Papy, 3DC, Christophe the Newbee
Ride details:
- started from Douane de Veyrier (BB, 3DC, Christophe)
- Followed the Arve river banks to the Casino (by the Migros) where we met with Papy who was waiting next to the wrong bench (meeting point), some minutes lost.
- Kept on the Leman-Chamonix trail till about 5 kms from Bonneville
- Returned with a detour via a BoumBoum special single track
- Lenght - difference in height (total positive) - duration: 50 kms - +508m - 2h53
Host: Christophe, including dinner prepared by Christelle (JMi ... Christelle, not Estelle), and Thomas

Highlights:
- Saleve is not the only wonderful play ground when starting from Veyrier
- No rain, but enough mud to make 3DC and Papy's shiny bikes look like real MTB's and not roadies
- A lot of excuses for not joining, let's say they were valid for most. Guys, you missed a really nice ride
- Met with 3 wild bores who where peacefully cruising in a field, may be 15 meters from the trail. Although the grass was a bit high, we could see them for about half a minute
- Re-visited the geography of Haute-Savoie: Where exactly is the Vuache, the Mole, or the Voirons??? And renamed la Menoge by .... "la M'noge" (Papy)
- Two pictures taken: one to be posted (thanks 3DC). The other one may not pass the censure. Still, we missed our official photographer.

Suggested points:
+1 for the riders (Boumboum, Papy, 3DC, Christophe)
+0.5 for the injured ones still joining for dinner (Zulu, Labrico)
+1 for Christophe for hosting
+0.5 for BoumBoum for the ride lead, and remembering the location of this really cool single track on the way back
+0.5 for 3DC for photo modeling
+0.5 for Christophe for the home made Limoncello (well appreciated by all!)
We all behave, no negative point today

Thanks to all, Christophe
