Hugo's Magic Pump

Hugo is the winningest 6-day racer in Italy, beating everyone, including the Mafia's 'Fixed' riders. To stop losing gambling moneys, the Mafia decides to wear Hugo down by throwing beautiful women at him, hoping to reduce his endurance and stamina. This Adult movie from the late 70's was Competitive Cycling Magazine's choice for best cycling footage in the era before 'Breaking Away'.

Apartment in Lausanne

Hey Jo's - I think I've mentioned this to most of you, but thought I'd put this on the blog as well...
I'm looking for an apartment at the moment, available immediately if possible. I'm looking at either Lausanne or somewhere around the "Jurasiens", meaning Nyon/Cheserex/La Rippe, etc.
If you know of someone or have any leads I'd appreciate it if you could let me know.
Also, if you happen to see anything on the bulletin board at the cafeteria of your workplace that could work as well!
Thanks in advance & look forward to seeing you on the slopes as soon as the rain turns back into snow!

CRC order - anybody want to order anything?

I received and email from CRC (I'm sure many of you did too) providing 10% discount on purchases over 100 GBP, over and above any special offer they have.
I'm going to take this chance to make an order, if anyone would like to piggyback on the free shipping let me know and I'll add your item to my basket. Deadline is tonight!

NB - this may be your chance to get a good deal on the lights you need for the Tuesday night skating in the Jura...

and I can now post to the blog !!!!

Greetings from Denmark

Rocky Rhone Ride

Ride Summary:
After an on time meeting at Stand de Tir, and a slightly delayed start, 6 riders headed along the Rhone at speed for a fun night out. After dodging runners, walkers, dogs and tree stumps (Limoncello excluded), those with lights gave those without an idea of the path through the forest. Sadly, half way through the awesome ride, Papy's clean and shiny Rocky got a branch through the transmission and that was the end of the fun... for Papy. Many points for helpers and victims (below) and a return through Plan-les-Oautes to the warmth of the cars. Man it was freezing out there! Charbonnade was enjoyed by all after much debate with the lady waitress about lack of beef, bread and beer! Plenty laughter and socials after solving the food and drink problems, and a happy night for all.

The Points:
+1 for all attendees - Papy, Missile, Labrico, Dopey, Limoncello and Zulu
+1 for last Tuesday ride of the "season" - as above
+1 for OTB (or "over the side") to Limoncello (the first of the season)
+1 for blood - same Jo as above
-1 for underwearing - same Jo as above (and showing everyone his ass)
-1 for being an ijit and forgetting lights - Zulu
+1 for team work and showing the way - Missile (what a gent)
+0.5 for getting thru the ride in the dark - Zulu (hey there were some scary moments)
+1 for major bike accident and having to ride home single speed - Papy
+0.5 for mechanical help - Dopey (mister fix-it)
+0.5 for being on time, riding to and from the tour (with Mathis waiting) and generally making the ride good - Labrico
+1 for hosting (kinda) - Zulu

Quote of tht Night:
Aves vous encore de frites!! (Dopey, directly after the waitress has delivered 5 bowls of golden fried pommes de terre)

Thanks to all for a fun ride and overall excellent evening. Lets keep it up even though the official points-earning season is over!!

Monday, 25 October 2010

End of Year Fondoo & Prize Giving - (File now open)

DATE CHOSEN: NONE YET -  1 MORE WEEK TO FILL IN YOUR AVAILABILITY.

DOPEY: FINDING A VENUE IS (STILL) DELEGATED TO YOU!!!!!!

Nameless is back!!

Most of you probably know already, but just in case I'd like to officially confirm that I'm coming back!
I'll be starting a new job in Lausanne as of 1st November, so even though I might miss the next few rides (won't have my bike for the moment) I'm 100% back.
I can't tell you how much I'm looking forward to catching up with all of you, and to regain my spot amongst the most fun-sharing, shit-giving, cow-dung splashing and hard-core biking team in CH!
See you all soon!!

Tuesday 26th - Bord du Rhone

Guys, I have elected to host this week's ride. Dopey and I thought Bord du Rhone followed by a little Charbonnade in Carouge would be a nice way to go. Lets meet at the usual parking lot before Pont Butin (opposite AMAG motors) for an 18.00 departure. Please let me know who will join so I can book a nice big table.
Look forward to see you there.

Single Speeding with the Dutch.....

Although the weather forecast showed trouble Missile, Nascar, Dopey and his two Dutch friends (Thijs and Rutger) went out for a XL Single Speed along the Lake border and back up the Toblerone. It turned out to be a nice ride where the Missile seemed to have to much energy (did he take those pils again?) and instead of rain the sun came out and cooked some of us......

Here is the summary:
Length: 42km
Duration: 3 hours
Average Speed: 17.5 km/h
Ascent: 720m

Points:
Missile deserves one point for making his RIP available for Thijs!

Quote: "Those Dutchies can pedal.....!!"

Cats and Dogs - New logo for some of us

Accordeon Ride report - 12 Oct 2010

Riders (8 + 1): 3DC, BoumBoum, Dopey, Husky, Iron Ass, Labrico, Limoncello, Mathis (spelling?), Papy

Ride details:
- Started from Douane de Veyrier, went south/west towards Archamps under BoumBoum leadership, then took left up into the Salève (Beaumont is the name of a village which comes to mind). Started the downhill to Labrico's place where we stopped to pick up young and energetic Mathis. From there, flying Mathis (7 years old) took the lead mostly in single tracks down to Veyrier.
- Lenght, duration, difference in height: BoumBoum, what is your GPS saying?

Highlights:
- 8 riders, starting at 6:02 pm !!!!
- beautiful fall colours, sunset from orange to pink in the wineyards, beautiful!
- pretty relax ride, slow pace, extended pack with front runners waiting for the straggler(s). Thus the name Accordeon ride
- Comment of the day: Dopey "why shower, I didn't sweat"
- Grumpy 3DC, not his best day from an energetic perspective, and expressing his bad mood by slowing the pace even more
- Impressive Mathis. At 7, this boy knows how to ride. In only a few years, his dad will no doubt be left behind.
- Outstanding dinner cooked by Christèle: Crozets / diots, stewed apple (home made, apples from the garden), and the expected home made limoncello. Steak + eggs for 3DC
- Respect for 3DC: sticked to his diet while the other hungry riders were enjoying their dinners. Great discipline

Points:
+ 1 point for all riders
+ 1 point for Limoncello for hosting
+1 point for BoumBoum for guiding us in beautiful trails
+ 1 point (incentive) for Labrico for being on time
- 0.5 point for 3DC for showing such a bad mood and denying the fact
+ 0.5 point for 3DC for making it to the ride + dinner while being on diet
Special Bonus point for Mathis

Comments, suggestions for points I missed: shout!

Thanks to all for another great evening between friends,

Update from Flatlander

Hey guys, just wanted to say hello. Some of the ride reports look really fun!!! Great pictures. I miss riding with you guys. I've been riding here in Peoria and rode in St. Louis (where there were lots of hills) for a couple days. Weather has been great, very dry and nice temperature. However, can't ride during the week due to too much work! New job is great and very interesting but takes lots of time. Husky visited me recently and we had great steak dinner.

Everytime I ride in Peoria, I run into many riders at one location. So, I just need to get hooked into local riding group so I have somebody to ride with.

Bike lights.....advice

For those that are considering buying a new bike light. These are the best options:
Light and Motion: Seca LED 900 CHF 500 (a very good deal) or those that want spend less money the Seca LED 400 at CHF 250.
I recommed spending a bit more.....it will last and is more enjoyable!

La Dole.....A record!!??

Today I had to ride my frustrations away, it happens......or shall I say sh..t happens!

I looked outside and realized it was another nice and sunny day. One of those beautiful end of summer days. My legs were still a bit tired from the last 4 days riding but I thought what the heck.....enjoy it while you can!

I took the 14h59 train from L'Asse....greeted the train Chef and found myself throwing a leg over the bike at the Les Pralies train stop at 15h39.

Target, the top of La Dole......although I had been there 6 times already this season there was one descend at the front that I did not try......and lets no forget the superb view! While pedaling up I got cheered on by some happy hiking granny's......and some of the cows recognized me from the ride on Monday. Boooooo.....!!

Just in little less than an hour I found myself at the top of my garden.....La Dole (1.677m). At 16h35 I looked at my phone......no missed calls. Damn.....still no job! Prepared myself for the descent, waved at the picnicking crowd and put the hammer down......

A couple of minutes after 17h00 I found myself free-wheeling into my parking lot......I descended +1.100m in less than 30 minutes and made the run from the top of La Dole non-stop and without putting a foot down on the ground......I had two steaming blue brake rotors, a smile from ear to ear and felt a little less frustrated.......!!! I was a happy camper.....

Thank you my Niner RIP9 , thank you Jura......Another day in paradise!!!
I kissed my bike goodnight and went for a hot shower..........
